What is hypertension?
Hypertension is a condition in which the force of the blood against the artery walls is too high. Usually, hypertension is defined as blood pressure above 140/90 and is considered severe if the pressure is above 180/120. High blood pressure often has no symptoms. Over time, if untreated, it can cause health conditions such as heart disease and stroke. Eating a healthier diet with less salt, exercising regularly, and taking medications can help lower blood pressure.

What causes hypertension?
High blood pressure usually develops over time. It can happen because of unhealthy lifestyle choices, such as not getting enough regular physical activity. Certain health conditions, such as diabetes and obesity, can also increase the risk of developing high blood pressure.
Can Functional Medicine help hypertension?
A functional medicine approach addresses the root cause of high blood pressure. Research has shown that up to 62 percent of high blood pressure patients could go off their anti-hypertension medications and maintain normal blood pressure by making diet and lifestyle changes.
